Residency: NYU Langone Health
Born and raised in Detroit, MI, Stephen attended the University of Michigan where he double majored in mechanical engineering and biochemistry. A two-time Olympic athlete, Stephen was also selected to play for Team USA in the Winter World University Games in 2007 in Turin, Italy, and in 2009 in Harbin, China. After that, he hung up his skates and went to medical school, at the Wayne State University – School of Medicine. There he found his calling in sports medicine and orthopaedics and went on to complete a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the NYU – Hospital for Joint Disease.
During residency, Stephen completed research focusing on sports medicine, shoulder arthroplasty, and hip arthroscopy. He developed a passion in team coverage, caring for NYU and LIU athletics, Alvin Ailey Dance, and the National Women's Hockey League. At the end of his residency, Stephen was elected by his peers, winning the Ralph and Phyllis Lusskin Resident Teaching Award. He eagerly looks forward to starting his fellowship at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute.
Outside of medicine, Stephen enjoys staying active, lifting weights, eating, and enjoying the outdoors. He and his wife, Grace, along with their cavapoo puppy, Fudgie, are excited to explore and enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
